Ernst Ferdinand Oehme was a German Romantic painter trained at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. At the Academy Oehme trained under Danish painter Johan Christian Clausen Dahl whose friend Caspar David Friedrich greatly influenced the young artist. His early works contained the somber tones and 'Gothic' settings much like the accomplished Friedrich. His famous oil painting 'Procession in the Mist' shows dark cloaked figures walking into the haze. Oehme's paintings are subtle yet dark. In later years the artist turned heavily toward landscape paintings focused on his native Germany.
