Mark Mazzoni is a colored pencil artist creating organic and masterfully detailed works on paper. Using colored pencil on Moleskin paper Mazzoni creates a limited, almost twilight, colored palette. The unique color choices and figure abstraction, often with organic shapes and items, create a striking lush visual mixture. The Milan, Italy based artist seems enraptured with the light floral colors fading into darkened shadowed areas. “Mazzoni weaves a world based on Italian folklore, made up of Janas and Cogas, female figures who, according to Sardinian beliefs, seduce, enchant, curse, and heal.” Via Galleria Patricia Armocida. He uses visual metaphors and the female figure combined with organic, even sensual looking plants to create a union of human and nature. This mixture of organic, dark and human elements is central to Mazzoni’s work.
